Creating content on the Internet is all about reach, engagement, and impressions. How many people will see your content and share it? How many will comment on it? It is hard to leave an impact when all your internet contemporaries are doing the same thing. How are you supposed to stand out?
You want your content to be better than your competition. You want it to reach more eyes, get more views. You want it to stay relevant on the Internet’s ever-expanding and content market. Here are a few tips and tricks on how you can beat your competition:
- Batch Your Content
Everyone will tell you to post regularly – to stick to a schedule. We have heard, “Algorithms will work in your favour if you follow a posting pattern” too many times. But creating new content every day is easier said than done. Instead, once every week make the content for your audience – the ones you can post on days you do not have anything, nor the energy to make something new to post. Your audience will know when to expect new content from you, they will look forward to it if you are consistent.
Batching content is easy, and it takes the pressure off your shoulders to be constantly creating and on the lookout for new content. And it is a great way to avoid creator burnout.
- Watch Your Competition Closely
“Keep your friends close, and enemies closer” is often quoted in movies but it can be applied here. You should pay attention to what your competition is doing. By keeping an eye on the content they make, you can decide whether you want to stay in the same niche, branch out into another niche or just expand your horizons.
It will also make it easier to get inspired to make new content. You should not plagiarize what they do, but it is a good way to keep track of what to avoid.
- Keep Up With Trends
If you batch your content for a week or two, it will be much easier to create new content on trends that pop along. You will not have to worry about anything you are currently working on because you have the batched content you can post and start working on the trend. Your competitors will jump on trends far later than you would, which would leave a good chance for you to get more exposure and engagement than they will.
If you are late to any trend, make sure that you add your twist to it. Your audience will not react or remember much of your content if they have seen the same thing four times. Show your audience your uniqueness – show them what you bring to the table. Show them that you deserve the seat at the table.
- Keep It Easy To Follow
Most content creators will complicate things – using fancy words, dizzying transitions, and awkward laugh tracks. That does not work. People who consume content can smell inauthenticity from a mile away. Be genuine with your work, and keep it simple. The easiest joke gets the loudest laugh. Complicating things will throw more people off than draw new audiences in. You do not need to alienate your current audience in your competition – they are your biggest asset.
- Make A Community
It sounds a lot easier than it is. You will find many content creators who are followed by millions of people, but there is no sense of being involved. You want to create a community of people around your content who come back every time. They should come back because you posted something. The power of community you can create around your name is highly untapped in most cases. It is the easiest way to get engagement and be on the top of the game. Make your audience feel like they matter: hold Q&As, do meet and greets, let them decide on what you create at times. Involve them in.
Ask yourself: Will you remember a person on the Internet who interacts with you and answers your queries, makes you feel involved in their lives and content creating process, or a person who just talks into a void and does not care about their audience?
